To find out the number of neutrons for tellurium(Te) ,we have to have knowledge about atomic number, atomic mass, mass number of tellurium(Te)
.Click picture to see clearly.
Step-1:
●The atomic number of tellurium(Te) is the number of protons in tellurium(Te)'s nucleus.
●The atomic mass of tellurium(Te) is the average number of protons plus neutrons of all the isotopes of tellurium(Te) .
●The masss number of tellurium(Te) is the number of protons plus neutrons of a specific isotope of tellurium(Te) .
Step-2:
We need to convert atomic mass of tellurium(Te) to mass number of tellurium(Te) by rounding if necessary (In case of fraction) .
From periodic table,
●Atomic number of tellurium(Te) is 52.
●Atomic mass of tellurium(Te) is 127.6
●To find out mass number,we need to round 127.6 to a whole number.
So,by rounding,we are getting mass number of tellurium(Te).The mass number of tellurium(Te) is 128.
Step-3:
By the difference between mass number and atomic number of tellurium(Te),we get the number of neutrons in tellurium(Te).
●Number of neutrons=128-52=76
In another way,
●Mass number=Protons +Neutrons
Or,128 =52+Neutrons
Or,128-52=Neutrons
Therefore,
Neutrons=76
Therefore, the number of neutrons in tellurium(Te) is 76 here for this isotope.Remember that neutrons are present in the nucleous of tellurium(Te)and it's charge is zero.
●Number of protons in tellurium(Te) is 52.Protons are present in the nucleus of tellurium(Te) .
● Number of electrons in tellurium(Te) is 52.Remember that number of electron equals to proton in a neutral atom.Eletrons are present outside of nucleus of tellurium(Te) .
