To find out the number of neutrons for niobium(Nb) ,we have to have knowledge about atomic number, atomic mass, mass number of niobium(Nb)
.Click picture to see clearly.
Step-1:
●The atomic number of niobium(Nb) is the number of protons in niobium(Nb)'s nucleus.
●The atomic mass of niobium(Nb) is the average number of protons plus neutrons of all the isotopes of niobium(Nb) .
●The masss number of niobium(Nb) is the number of protons plus neutrons of a specific isotope of niobium(Nb) .
Step-2:
We need to convert atomic mass of niobium(Nb) to mass number of niobium(Nb) by rounding if necessary (In case of fraction) .
From periodic table,
●Atomic number of niobium(Nb) is 41.
●Atomic mass of niobium(Nb) is 92.91
●To find out mass number,we need to round 92.91 to a whole number.
So,by rounding,we are getting mass number of niobium(Nb)
.The mass n umber of niobium(Nb) is 93.
Step-3:
By the difference between mass number and atomic number of niobium(Nb),we get the number of neutrons in niobium(Nb).
●Number of neutrons=93-41=52
In another way,
●Mass number=Protons +Neutrons
Or,93 =41+Neutrons
Or,93-41=Neutrons
Therefore,
Neutrons=52
Therefore, the number of neutrons in niobium(Nb) is 52 here for this isotope.Remember that neutrons are present in the nucleous of niobium(Nb)and it's charge is zero.
●Number of protons in niobium(Nb) is 41.Protons are present in the nucleus of niobium(Nb) .
● Number of electrons in niobium(Nb) is 41.Remember that number of electron equals to proton in a neutral atom.Eletrons are present outside of nucleus of niobium(Nb) .
