How Many Neutrons Does

Description

Strontium (Sr)  Have?

Hello, chemistry lover! today we are going to help you to find out  how many neutrons strontium (Sr) have in just 3 steps.

Description

Descriptio

To find out the number of neutrons  for  strontium (Sr) ,we have to have knowledge about atomic number, atomic mass, mass number of  strontium (Sr)
.Click picture to see clearly.

                    Step-1:

●The atomic number of
strontium (Sr)   is the number of protons in strontium (Sr)'s nucleus.

●The atomic mass of
strontium (Sr)    is the average number of  protons plus neutrons of all the isotopes of  strontium (Sr)    .

●The masss number of
strontium (Sr)  is the number of protons plus neutrons of a specific isotope of  strontium (Sr)   .

How Many Neutrons Does rubidium (Rb) Have?

                    Step-2:

We need to convert atomic mass of
strontium (Sr)   to mass number of  strontium (Sr)  by rounding if necessary (In case of fraction) .

From periodic table,

  ●Atomic number of
 strontium (Sr) is 38.

●Atomic mass of  s
trontium (Sr) is 87.62

●To find out mass number,we need to round
87.62 to a whole number. So,by rounding,we are getting mass number of  strontium (Sr) .The mass number of  strontium (Sr)  is 88
.

                    Step-3:

How Many Neutrons Does strontium (Sr) Have?

By the difference between mass number and atomic number of s
trontium (Sr) ,we get the number of neutrons in strontium (Sr).

●Number of neutrons=88-38=50

In another way,

●Mass number=Protons +Neutrons

Or,88 =38+Neutrons

Or,88-38=Neutrons

Therefore,
Neutrons=50

Therefore, the number of neutrons in strontium (Sr) ) is 50 here for this isotope.Remember that neutrons are present in the nucleous of strontium (Sr) and it's charge is zero.

●Number of protons in s
trontium (Sr)  is 38.Protons are present in the nucleus of strontium (Sr) .

● Number of electrons in s
trontium (Sr)  is 38.Remember that number of electron equals to proton in a neutral atom.Eletrons are present outside of nucleus of strontium (Sr) )  .
