What is the Balanced Equation of Photosynthesis?

Today we are going to Balance photosynthesis reaction in just five steps.


Here is the photosynthesis reaction.

                     Step-1:

Write the equation like this and count atoms from both sides.




CO₂ + H₂O   →  C₆H₁₂O₆ +O₂

C  → 1                           C  → 6


O  → 2 +1 =3       O→ 6  + 2 =8


H  → 2                        H→ 12




                     Step-2:

Balance carbon first.Then update oxygen number.



6CO₂ + H₂O   →  C₆H₁₂O₆ +O₂

C  → 1 ×6=6                   C  → 6


O→6×2 +1 =13   O→ 6  + 2 =8


H  → 2                        H→ 12



                     Step-3:


Now balance hydrogen .Then update oxygen.



6CO₂ +6H₂O   → C₆H₁₂O₆ +O₂

C  → 1 ×6=6                   C  → 6


O→6×2+1×6 =18 O→ 6+ 2 =8


H  → 2 ×6=12             H→ 12




                      Step-4:

Now balance oxygen atoms.




6CO₂ +6H₂O   →C₆H₁₂O₆ +6O₂

C  → 1 ×6=6                   C  → 6



O→ 6×2+1×6 =18  O→6+2×6=18


H→2 ×6=12                H→ 12




                  Step-5:

Now change arrow sign→

6CO₂ +6H₂O  --> C₆H₁₂O₆ +6O₂


The above  equation is balanced equation for photosynthesis.

Notice that each side of the equation have 6 C,18 O,12 H.
