To find out the number of neutrons for technetium (Tc) ,we have to have knowledge about atomic number, atomic mass, mass number of technetium (Tc)
.Click picture to see clearly.
Step-1:
●The atomic number of technetium (Tc) is the number of protons in technetium (Tc) nucleus.
●The atomic mass of technetium (Tc) is the average number of protons plus neutrons of all the isotopes of technetium (Tc) .
●The masss number of technetium (Tc) is the number of protons plus neutrons of a specific isotope of technetium (Tc) .
Step-2:
We need to convert atomic mass of technetium (Tc) to mass number of technetium (Tc) by rounding if necessary (In case of fraction) .
From periodic table,
●Atomic number of technetium (Tc) is 43.
●Atomic mass of technetium (Tc) is 98.91
●To find out mass number,we need to round 98.91 to a whole number.
So,by rounding,we are getting the mass number of technetium (Tc) .The mass number of technetium (Tc) (we are getting) is 99.
Step-3:
By the difference between mass number and atomic number of technetium (Tc) ,we get the number of neutrons in technetium (Tc) .
●Number of neutrons=99-43=56
In another way,
●Mass number=Protons +Neutrons
Or,99 =43+Neutrons
Or,99-43=Neutrons
Therefore,
Neutrons=56
Therefore, the number of neutrons in technetium (Tc) is 56 here for this isotope.Remember that neutrons are present in the nucleous of technetium (Tc) and it's charge is zero.
●Number of protons in technetium (Tc) is 43.Protons are present in the nucleus of technetium (Tc) .
● Number of electrons in technetium (Tc) is 43.Remember that number of electron equals to proton in a neutral atom.Eletrons are present outside of nucleus of technetium (Tc) .
