To find out the number of neutrons  for  iodine(I) ,we have to have knowledge about atomic number, atomic mass, mass number of  iodine(I)
.Click picture to see clearly.

                    Step-1:

●The atomic number of
iodine(I)  is the number of protons in iodine(I)'s nucleus.

●The atomic mass of
iodine(I)   is the average number of  protons plus neutrons of all the isotopes of   iodine(I) .

●The masss number of
iodine(I)  is the number of protons plus neutrons of a specific isotope of  iodine(I)   .

How Many Neutrons Does iodine(I) Have?

                    Step-2:

We need to convert atomic mass of
iodine(I)  to mass number of  iodine(I) by rounding if necessary (In case of fraction) .

From periodic table,

  ●Atomic number of
 iodine(I) is 53.

●Atomic mass of
iodine(I) is 126.90

●To find out mass number,we need to round
126.90 to a whole number.

So,by rounding,we are getting the mass number of iodine(I).The mass number of iodine(I) (we are getting) is 127.

                    Step-3:

How Many Neutrons Does iodine(I) Have?

By the difference between mass number and atomic number of
iodine(I),we get the number of neutrons in iodine(I).

●Number of neutrons=127-53=74

In another way,

●Mass number=Protons +Neutrons

Or,127 =53+Neutrons

Or,127-53=Neutrons

Therefore,
Neutrons=74

Therefore, the number of neutrons in iodine(I) is 74 here for this isotope.Remember that neutrons are present in the nucleous of iodine(I) and it's charge is zero.

●Number of protons in
iodine(I) is 53.Protons are present in the nucleus of iodine(I) .

● Number of electrons in
iodine(I)  is 53.Remember that number of electron equals to proton in a neutral atom.Eletrons are present outside of nucleus of iodine(I)  .
