【2 Steps】How Many Protons Does Carbon Have?||Number of Protons in Carbon(C)||Atomic number of Carbon Element

How Many Protons Does Carbon Have?||Number of Protons in Carbon(C)

First,we have to look for the symbol for carbon in the  periodic table.

From the periodic table,we see that the symbol for carbon is C.Look at IVA group.

                Step-2:

Now we will look at the number situated upper right of  carbon symbol.

From periodic table ,we observe that  this number for carbon is 6.This number is called atomic number and expresses the number of protons in the element. So there are six protons in carbon.

Nice to know:

Remember that the atomic number of carbon is 6.This means that in a neutral carbon atom we have 6 protons and 6 electrons. As the charge of proton is +1 and  the charge of electron is -1,equal number of protons and electrons make a carbon atom neutral or charge less.
