Baking Soda plus Vinegar Chemical Reaction Explanation
Hello! Chemistry lover, today we are going to know the reaction between baking soda plus vinegar .
The chemical formula for
baking soda is NaHCO₃.
Baking soda means sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate.
On the otherhand, the vinegar is 6-10 % Acetic acid. The formula for vinegar will be CH₃COOH.The IUPAC name for acetic acid is ethanoic acid.
baking soda is NaHCO₃.
Baking soda means sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate.
On the otherhand, the vinegar is 6-10 % Acetic acid. The formula for vinegar will be CH₃COOH.The IUPAC name for acetic acid is ethanoic acid.
Step-1:
NaHCO₃(s) + CH₃COOH (l)
=CH₃COONa(aq) + H₂CO₃(l)
Step-2:
H₂CO₃ is very unstable.So
it will be decomposed.
H₂CO₃(l )=CO₂(g) +H₂O(l)
Step-3
Now add these step(1) and step(2).
NaHCO₃(s)+ CH₃COOH (l)
=CH₃COONa(aq.) +CO₂(g) +H₂O(l)
●l >>>>means liquid
●S>>>> means solid
●g >>>>means gas
●aq. >>>>means aqueous
●NaHCO₃>>Baking soda or sodium hydrogen carbonate or sodium bicarbonate
●CH₃COOH>>Ethanoic acid or acetic acid or vinegar
●CH₃COONa>>Sodium ethanoate or Sodium acetate
●CO₂>>>>Carbodioxide
●H₂O>>water
●H₂CO₃>>>carbonic acid
●Baking soda reacts with
vinegar and produce water,
carbondioxide and sodium
acetate. This is a double
displacement reaction.This
is also a endothermic
reaction because heat will decrease.
