【10 Steps】How Can We Convert Propene to Ethene?
How to Convert Propene to Ethene
Step-1:
Propene reacts with HBr in presence of Hydrogen peroxide(H₂O₂) and we get 1-bromo propane(CH₃-CH₂-CH₂-Br).
Step-2:
1-bromo propane (CH₃-CH₂-CH₂-Br) reacts with aqueous KOH and we get propanol(CH₃-CH₂-CH₂-OH).
Step-3:
Propanol(CH₃-CH₂-CH₂-OH) reacts with K₂Cr₂O₇ in presence of H₂SO₄ and we get propanal(CH₃-CH₃CHO).
Step-4:
Propanal(CH₃-CH₃CHO) again reacts with K₂Cr₂O₇ in presence of H₂SO₄ and we get propanoic acid(CH₃CH₂COOH).
Step-5:
Propanoic acid(CH₃CH₂COOH) reacts with Conc.NH₃ and we get ammonium propanoate(CH₃CH₂COONH₄).
Step-6:
Ammonium propanoate(CH₃CH₂COONH₄) is heated and we get propanamide (CH₃-CH₂CONH₂).
Step-7:
Propanamide[CH₃-CH₂CONH₂) reacts withBr₂ in presnce of KOH and we get ethyl amine(CH₃-CH₂NH₂).
Step-8:
Ethyl amine(CH₃-CH₂NH₂) reacts with NaNO₂+HCl and we get ethanol(CH₃CH₂OH).
Step-9:
Ethanol(CH₃CH₂OH) reacts with PCl₅ and we get chloro ethane(CH₃-CH₂Cl).
Step-10:
Chloro ethane(CH₃-CH₂Cl) alcoholic KOH and we get ethene(CH₂=CH₂).
